This is not a political discussion, in fact I think whatever our views, we are extremely fed up with what is going on at present. It then set me thinking that art, in any form helps a lot of us and wouldn't it be wonderful if we could solve the world's problems by insisting that everyone get involved. Now I can imaging the art suppliers rubbing their hands in glee and being in front of the queue in trying to promote art. I notice on POL that artists are joining from all over the world and we all get on very well, nationality, creed and religion not being an issue. Ok there are one or two who put on a painting depicting a sensitive issue and I see that we just seem to side-step those. Of course I have always thought that artistic people were lovely until Derek was drummed out of his club, so maybe I am just naïve. What are other artists' thoughts on this.
I'm inclined to agree, something has to put us back together again. On an unpolitical note, art helped me after my stroke last year, and when I attended the Stroke Assembly this month there was an artist there on one of the display stands encouraging people getting over stroke to have a go and express their hidden feelings in art. People who had never lifted a paint brush before we're having a go and expressing their stroke journey. Some of the paintings were quite moving. Ellen
Art would be one idea; music the other. The relative merits of plein-air or Mozart unite, not divide, and long may they do so.
Adele, generally arty folk are lovely....but there are always bad apples somewhere in there. I think your concept is very lovely but insisting anyone does any thing is always open to rebellion. Sadly life just aint like that. Would that it were.
<div>I realised Sylvia that "insisting" was the wrong word - perhaps "suggesting" would be better. Oh well, we can only dream. Alang23 - as a lover of music too, I agree. Ellen - art therapy is a wonderful thing. So glad you are now on the road to recovery. And, I think, it was you, you "little tinker" who has suggested I do my latest painting in watercolour. Will need to calm my nerves before I try!!</div>
There will always be a "second set" DD - that's humans for you.

Why should we be fed up with what's going on? If you mean the referendum, it was courageous, even rash for Cameron to give us the chance to vote on the EU. He lost his gamble, and we are out of the EU, the next few years will be difficult for us, but in the end things will get better. I don't think that art will solve the world's problems at all. Artists can be vain and egotistical - Gauguin abandoned his wife and kids for the South Seas, Van Gogh was a pain in the neck to most of the people in Arles... I could go on. I can't think of anything art related that has changed the world. Let's just enjoy ourselves and paint and draw.

By referring to being fed up with what is going on keora, was not about having the Referendum, but the way so many people are turning on each other - so sad. However, I regard a lot of the artists on this site as being very nice people, willing to help advise and support those who need it. And who knows, without art Michael Edwards would be running amok!!
