Hi forum.
I visited the National Portrait gallery this year to check out the BP award and was struck not only by the paintings, but that the only one's that I liked portrayed people who were not unhappy! - ie a smile, or at least a twinkle is preferable to a scowl, a tardy expression or something that is just distasteful etc
Do you think that some art is simply provoking a response and in that sense it wins because people are shocked by the subject, or should we take a look at how the world is expressing itself?
In fact, do we simply paint ourselves all the time - versions of our self expressed in what we find beautiful - or not?
Just a thought :-S
