I've just finished painting for today, as usual I had oil paint all over my hands. There are loads of expensive hand cleaners available to buy but I bought some swarfega the other day and that worked just as well for a pound without resorting to white spirit or turps. (which can't be very good for the skin.)
So anyway, I thought that if we could all share our top tips for cleaning up without using solvent, then maybe the publishers at the artist or L.P could compile a top ten or something along those lines so that our collective wisdom could help others.
As I say I used swarfega tonight (it was the green jelly type) and orange scrub works amazing for oils and smells nice too.
But in the past I have always used something my grandad taught me from his job as a mechanic, which is just a little fairy liquid in the hands with about two big spoons worth of sugar, rub it all in/over the hands and rinse. Works a treat every time B-)
Also I'm sure this doesn't just apply to oil painters, let's hear from people working in all other media's too!
