I've spotted a few likely pictures for this competition in the galleries...but this is the first time I've viewed the 'entries' gallery. (Still finding my way around the site). My word!! What an impressive set of paintings. I'm glad I don't have to pick a winner. We all have our personal preferences, and I like those that have taken a slightly different 'spin' on the Van Gogh style. Alan B's brilliant concept is the kind of thing I mean. There are others...John Inkson's great entry, and yours Sylvia...(It doesn't look like any Van Gogh painting I know, but does have his muscular painting style...great!)
Picking a winner is such a subjective thing, but I've made my choice...no names, no pack drill, and I don't want to put the mockers on it. Interesting.

Select 'competitions' from the banner strip near the top of the website...the one that includes 'gallery'. Scroll down until you find the 'paint what you like' competition...at the bottom of this are two buttons...'enter' and 'view entries'. Click on 'view entries.' (I've only just found it myself.)

Hi Lew, have you seen the paintings Vincent painted of Mother Roulin with her baby? he did a few. Vincent wrote to his brother, Theo, (in one of his many letters) explaining that he wanted to capture an emotion -above all- within in his paintings. Many of his works present an ever present feeling of loneliness. Vincent portrayed different styles through his short period as an artist, but I think, Sylvia has captured the wonderful emotion of love with her portrayal of, my granddaughter and me. Lovely work Sylv'
Vincent would be proud of you, no doubt :)

Carol, I wasn't familiar with the Mother Roulin paintings...I've just looked them up. Marvelous. The trouble with words is that they don't always say what we mean, so I hope you didn't think I was adversely criticizing Sylvia's work. Quite the contrary, I thought it marvelous and captured Van Gogh's style. It was one of those I thought would win.

Hi Lew, Thanks for the comment. I never thought for one moment that you where giving a critique. It was just an opportunity to highlight the, not so well observed works of Vincent, and as always its good to share information. It's good to read you had a search for this work. I still smile when I look at the portrayal of one of the paintings of them, Mother Roulin looks as if baby Roulin has done something very unpleasant in the nappy - oil on canvas - 63.5 x 51.0 cm - Arles: November-December, 1888. :)
Happy Painting, Lew.
