I've been watching the Sky portrait artist competition and was surprised to hear one of the judges say that they didn't like signatures on paintings and that contemporary artists shouldn't sign their work on the front - it detracts from the composition. This is a new idea to me - I thought we should always sign our artwork clearly. What does everyone else think? Is there anyone who can say definitively what the correct thing to do is?
