A new generation of grammarians has changed many of the descriptions of parts of speech - whether for good or ill I'm not sure, though I could certainly do without 'litotes', the meaning of which I've forgotten, and other parts of speech which we used to have to 'parse' - much of this came from Latin, and possibly Greek; which by the time I went to school had largely fallen off the curriculum.
I taught myself the grammar that interested me, as opposed to that which the school tried to teach me, by reading G H Vallins, Fowler, Carey et al - God, I must have been an odd child! How many kids read grammar books for pleasure and instruction, in their own time? But - I did. And now you know. You have a madman in your midst.
