I think I like it, more than I dislike it. I've seen quite a bit of this modern about. There are various techniques in oils, acrylics and mixed media that give this look. It's not new. Some works I really like. Saying that, I do prefer traditional art. As we know, The King has an eye for a good piece of artwork and it could be that he may have requested something modern, non-traditional. That could have been his spec for his portrait.
