What do members think of the scheme to build a giant fibreglass horse in Ebbsfleet ? It's already cost £1 million in design fees. Construction might cost a further £2million. The designer wants to build the beast in fibreglass and reinforced concrete. According to the Times, he's not sure if it can be constructed in this way because nobody has built a sculpture of this size with these materials. I think it could be another of those arty British construction jobs that ends in tears. Here's some of them : The Scottish Parliament ,which suffered huge cost overuns to achieve the architect's fussy and fiddly dream Our very own Millenium dome (what happened to that ?) The spiky steel structure in Manchester, the B of the Bang. This has been mothballed because it would cost £3million to stop the rusting steel spikes falling on people. I don't think we British are good at grandiose public art projects. Why bother doing it ? Let's save up the money and buy another Titian - at least he could paint and draw.
