I thought that I would start my first thread with something that can be a little controversial, the subject of art in prisons. I was wondering if people think this is a good or a bad thing and what pros and cons they feel it could have?? I recently read a book on "outsider artists" and much of the art produced was done in a secure enviroment with limited materials, yet some of the results were spectacular. Others were shocking and very raw, even upsetting. Yet in this country there is limited market space or oppourtunitys for an "outsider artist". This is in direct contrast to America where there are dedicated gallerys and customers who collect work produced by the socially marginalised.
