I do get a bit up-tight when I hear so called experts looking down their noses at more traditional art forms. In the TV programme yesterday 'Show me the Monet' I heard the term 'stolid traditionalism' used as if all traditional works are stolid whilst more contemporary works aren't. In the same programme judgement appeared to be dependent upon whether the artist had 'formal training' - urrgh - - there is a place in this world for all art forms and artists no matter what their style or background or training. Having said that, I must admit I did agree with the judges ultimate findings but for different reasons . I was going to add the term 'arrogant pomposity' but thought it was a bit OTT but what the heck - I've got it in enyway!!! Rant over.
