Ther was a recent question about the use of made up greens. Michael Edwards came up with the fine word 'snoberism'. Yes,, throughout art there is a deep rooted element of snoberism. 'You must do this' and, 'that is the correct way. The absurdity of, it isn't real art if you don't go out in all weathers and do drawings of your subject, 'the only real art is portrait,' or ' the only real art is landscape.' The most insane one I read long ago, many years when my dad was still alive, in a Leisure Painter or one of the A5 size The Artist, related to the intelectual aspect of drawing rather than using a camera, sorry, I don't paint for an intelectual excersize, I write for that. the reality is, there are no rules, just you, the idea, the pigment and method of application on to the surface of your choice, paint what you like, when you like, and how you like. But don't come up with the old lie - 'your way is the right way'.bestMick
