Pondering, not for the first time, what colour to paint a sky - not a cloudy sky, which is relatively easy in terms of colour if nothing else, but a blue one?  I've tried all sorts of colours in my time - French Ultramarine: too purple; Cerulean Blue - varies, from a greenish hint to just too weak; Cobalt Blue - a bit bland; Pthalo or Prussian Blue - tends to take over and be too strong; Manganese Blue - well, a) it's not Manganese any more, b) it's just another Pthalo, and c) it tends to have a somewhat metallic cast which can throw the whole picture out.  So I usually mix reds into the blues to grey them a bit, or mix blues together, or have even used a mix of viridian and yellow ochre with just a hint of Prussian Blue; and have even mixed a black or Paynes Grey with Cobalt ... <div> </div><div>I've never yet been entirely happy with a blue sky - I know some people who never paint them, especially in oil.... if asked for advice, I'd say keep them as light as possible for a British sky, but I know I don't always follow that advice myself....  </div><div> </div><div>How about you lot?</div>
