<title></title><p class="western" style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Hi Thomas
Been unavoidably AWOL from POL for some time so only just seen your post. I understand when you say drawing comes more naturally to you than painting, it does to me also, I have always had a love hate relationship with painting, giving it up quite a few times but have always been drawn back as I suspect will you. Anyway you have loads of good advice in the above so I only have a couple of things to add, firstly Drawing is Art! It's the foundation of all art despite what the art schools now apparently say. When I was a young apprentice there was a guy in the factory, a Machine Fitter, who could draw anything, hand, foot, body etc with just a few quick lines and so beautifully that it took your breath away, what I wouldn’t give to be able to draw like that! He didn't paint though and made nothing of his talent, a dour man but somehow he inspired me and I will always remember him as a brilliant artist.
Secondly a recent POL thread about Oil Pastels got me interested as having ignored them for years I began to wonder if they would be ok for outdoor sketching, did a bit of research on the web which provided lots of info that had not been available those years ago and so have been experimenting with a few drawings lately and even with the crappy old Oil Pastels that I have the results have been encouraging. Water Soluble Oil Pastels are now available though I have not been able to find them available in Britain, however I have some on order from USA via Amazon. Sennelier also make Oil Pastels that are said to be so soft and creamy they are described as like drawing with lipstick. Could be a way for you to go Thomas? If you wish to see what can be achieved with them Google “ Oil Pastel Society “ some of the paintings are stunning.
