Have just started another Sketch book Collaboration. My theme is "A Drama." Im using a double page in a landscape format A 5 sketch book. Im trying to portray a Murmeration of Starlings, I want them all across the double page . The shape is very fluid and curved. My original idea was to make a stencil then splat inside it with my intrepretation of starlings . BUT it would have to be a very smooth and beautifully cut stencil to get just the right line. I dont use masking fluid ( cant stand the stuff) and I dont have one of those geometric shaped things, so I had a thought why not use sand ? spill it across my background (already painted) and play around until I get the shape I want. Then, using a controlled toothbrush splatter, paint inside the sand shapes. . Anyone got an alternative idea or do you think this might work? Better still has anyone tried it?

That sounds a good idea, NorthLight, I'll be trying your method. Starlings produce such wonderful shapes, Will you post your result?
NorthLight, you have certainly caught the moment, with the theme. Your a very brave lady to add to it, hope all goes well with the foreground. Its beautiful as it is.
Sylvia, I think this is a fantastic concept of how to represent those clouds of starlings which darken the sky in compact swoops. Truly adventurous nd very effective. Good on you...!
Glad to read your not going to add to the triumph you have created.
