Not sure if this is news, but I've only just found out about it; The Rijksmuseum has digitised it's collections (over 600K items) and made them available, and searchable, online. Go here: Clickety click
Yes, Alan. Isn´t it wonderful. We are hoping to be able to go and visit the museum some time next year.
Alan, thanks for that, I hadn't been aware of it. The link is now on my favourites and I shall enjoy browsing the paintings. One of my favorite painters is Pieter Bruegel the Elder, I'm not sure how well he's represented in this collection, but a quick look has shown Peeter Baltens who appears to paint in similar style. I'd never heard of him. Thanks again, Lew.
Thanks for that Alan - many treasures here.
I've been spending too much time looking through this collection. I've discovered artists I like that I've never heard of...not surprising, I guess, given how many artists there are. What has surprised me is the range of art available, I've always admired illustration for example...some Museums have a rather sniffy attitude towards commercial art...not so the Rijksmuseum. Stacks of great commercial art and period photography. How glad I am that the forum pointed me in its direction. Be warned...the 'I'll have twenty minutes looking through the site' notion, finds you still sitting there an hour and a half later. Lew
