Have seen one or two of her works over the years and never taken much time or interest, but the documentary on Beeb last night was a wonderful piece. The film made by her son and featured very frank and revealing things about her life, family and work. What amazing vivid paintings.
I ended up asleep I'm ashamed to say Derek, but will play catch up. I've seen a couple of exhibitions over the years and much as I admire her paintings I do find them disturbing. So will watch the programme with you nterest. Plus keep my eyes open.
I watched the first 15 minutes and now understand why her paintings are so disturbing. I find it horrible that women can be teated in such an abusive way. And in some parts of the world its acceptable.
Haven't watched it yet but recorded it so I will be doing so shortly. Must admit I had never heard the name until I saw the documentary advertised so will be intrigued to learn more.
I've now watched the programme on Paula Rego and was very impressed with the power and intensity of some of her work, especially the abortion series which apparently had all the impact she desired and became an influential series. Not so sure about some of her abstract stuff but then that is not generally my taste anyway. Obviously a very talented lady and I would recommend the programme to anyone who has not yet seen it.
Yes thanks Stub, ot was good and revealing in many ways. I told a pal of mine about the documentary who happens to dabble in sketching now and then, but is one of the top silversmiths in the country, about her and he asked if she was the one with the eyebrows. I thought not but couldn't name her then. Since found Frida Kahlo and will advise him on Sunday
