I'm not one to follow auctions as I can't afford anything, but the Christies sale of this ex-Microsoft inventor caught my eye in the paper.  So I stayed up to stupid o'clock to watch part of it. Apparently Allen, chose his own works rather than let someone else choose items which would be good investments. This has paid off, I believe.  And I think his taste was similar to mine in some pictures, there's some fabulous work there. But oh! the prices paid. Most items fetched well over their high estimate - some in multiples of the top end.  The Seurat...including premium $143M !! Summary here - and there is a lot by lot results list on the site. https://www.christies.com/features/paul-g-allen-collection-sale-results-12534-3.aspx?sc_lang=en Is this a sign of the richest needed to get rid of their cash?  I wonder.
