Did anyone read the article in the Jan 2009 edition of the SAA Paint Magazine written by Alan Brain called 'Painting with Feeling'? I read it with great interest as he was asking how you capture your feelings in your paintings. He was also talking about how the colours we choose for our paintings reflect the emotions we have about the subject we are tackling. He also talked about using colour to create an atmosphere. He went on to say 'that paintings that draw the viewer in and hold them for a while are communicating through feeling and this elusive ingredient is really worth working for'. I have found that I tend to see a composition through colour, even although some of the colours I use are not actually present in the subject I am painting. I would interested to hear what others think about this and whether their emotions drive their painting.
