I've read an article in the newspaper about how photographers, professional and tourists, are increasingly being asked for I.D., to stop taking photos, even being arrested, as they have been 'using their camera in a sensitive area'. This can be in a public place, of a building, bus, park bench, etc, but under the 'terrorist act' the police have been perhaps over-cautious in their interpretation. I just wondered if the same would apply to plein-air painting. If I were to set my easel up in a 'sensitive area' could I be treated the same way? Especially if my painting is so realistic one would be hard to distinguish between it and a photograph (I wish!!). There is a beach near, for instance, Sizewell power station; is it possible that an artist would be arrested if they started painting the building in too much detail? Anyone know if this has happened?
