Nbsp appears when you approach a forum post from, as it were, the wrong direction: if you click on the right-hand panel on the Forum home page - the one which shows the latest posting - you tend to get the nbsp; if you go straight into the forum, and click on a subject heading and post, then you don't. Why, God knows - and he's not telling. By the way, I do varnish acrylics, because the paint is actually quite soft and dirt can settle into it - not on it, into it. And I normally use a low-gloss varnish, because it accentuates the colour. But it depends on the way you use acrylic - if you're using it as watercolour, or at least highly diluted, in a delicate way, a varnish is likely to look ghastly. If you use a heavy-bodied acrylic, a varnish is normally useful... although high gloss has a deadening effect all of its own. If I painted a picture in Chromacolour, I would normally varnish it if it's on canvas/board. If the painting is in Cryla - it might not need it at all. My first reasonably successful acrylic, nearly 50 years old and painted with Cryla, has never been varnished: and if it's deteriorated, I haven't noticed it. It's a mistake to think that acrylic is one simple paint - it has many different varieties, and they vary in the treatment they need.
Incidentally, if you have a heavy bodied acrylic unvarnished that does get dirty, the best way I've found to clean it is with plain soap and water - obviously you need to take a bit of care, but it does work. You wouldn't use solvents, now would you......? No, of course you wouldn't. You wouldn't do it twice, anyway.
Sorry Robert but I'm still none the wiser - do the letters nsbp actually appear on the screen - if so I've never seen them. If not how does it manifest itself?
Hee hee - I do enjoy a Syd post..... Quite makes my evening.... Yes Michael, &nbsp appears on the screen, and it's a flaming nuisance when it does. You've not encountered it? Be thankful! I don't see it often now - I think the site threw up a few more problems than it now does when it was first changed over, but there's still an issue if you don't go straight to the individual subject headings but click on one of those two panels on the home page. And if you're none the wiser, there's not much point in relying on me for enlightenment, because while I tried to understand the links provided, I gave up in a sort of daze - I would have made more sense of it if it had been written in Mongolian. Pat's your boy for explanations - he's a lot more technically-minded than I am.
Yes dear Syd - He's The Missing Link (HTML). Thanks for putting me right about NBST everyone - off to learn Mongolian now.
Syd you're a gent - Greek it is.
