Good idea - shells are good, too, if you happen to live near the sea.  Great ways of learning about volume and texture.
I have been involved with similar situations Tao in years gone by.  Your bulbs are a good idea also Roberts shells, and m fact  any natural objects used as a drawing aid.   But , besides stimulating drawing skills I think creativity and imagination is good to be able to express. On one occasion I asked everyone to bring an item  or one or two. Anything they liked from shells to pots to umbrellas . Then made a huge still life all along the centre of the table.  Just plonk stuff on the table let everyone add their own bits . People find where they want to sit and do what they see in front of them.   Your students now begin to look beyond the initial shapes and into darks and lights. They could even move back and take a longer view.  I have seen some lovely stuff started this way.
All the best with your group Tao. Some excellent ideas here. Sylvia, you have me wondering whether I can use your brilliant idea as a starter for an abstract - it is getting the initial shapes that I always find the most difficult. I shall be thinking about this in the next little while. Don't have a large enough table but could use the bed I suppose or perhaps might find a suitable surface around here. Am away off on Sunday for a couple of workshops but hope to get back into more painting when I get back.
Thank you Robert ,  Sylvia  and Sandra  for your lovely comments,    I have several classes planned working from the shapes generating from the bulb,   leading to working on their  own landscapes using rocks in walls and so on,   I am sure there is a million ideas to come from the humble little bulb.    Happy New Year to you  all.
