I'm reading this book about how the Navajo Native American nation helped the US government win the Second World War in the Pacific (against the Japanese). It is an extraordinary story of human compassion by Navajo towards the rest of Americans (the newcomers, if you like) I want to paint a picture of this- maybe abstract, maybe realistic. I really recommend this book- Navajo Code Talkers by Nathan Aaseng- which has a powerful and moving message, I believe. Has anyone painted on the subject of the Navajo Code Talkers before- a bit specialist, I know, but would be glad to hear about it?!
