Am I alone in finding the paintings posted in the POL Gallery by Nacho Frades thought provoking and intriguing? I don't always understand what he is driving at but his originality, supported by good technique, makes for a refreshing change from the pretty watercolours that often dominate the Gallery. Not that I dislike pretty watercolours per se, I still try to produce them myself as a break from oils and acrylics but you know what I mean hopefully.
Great to see an artist who is trying to say something with his art rather than simply paint an attractive picture. Sadly I do neither!

I think he is one of the most interesting and intriguing artists on POL at the moment. I am always fascinated by his work and when he posts I go straight to them. As for trying to say something - well he might claim there is a meaning but, for me, looking for a meaning or being led to think in a certain direction by a title, actually detracts from the pleasure of making up my own mind and seeing what I want to see. This is why I give all my abstracts single word titles - the single words being entirely made up - any relationship to a real word with meaning is entirely accidental.

And no, Stub, you clearly aren't alone in appreciating his work. So much to interest one - he's one of those artists who makes you think again about what you're trying to do yourself. As for the meanings, well the strength of the work is that you can import your own meaning to it. As somebody once said when asked to explain his work, if I could do that I wouldn't have painted a picture. I don't read the explanatory text, when there is any - more interested in what I can draw from a painting without help.
