I have been reading a fascinating book about the lives of twentieth century artists; mine seems pretty dull in comparison but I don't think I would swop. Anyway, there was a whole series of art movements after the Impressionists kicked off a new way of painting and selecting subject matter: cubism, fauvism, dada, surrealism, abstract expressionism, pop art to name a few. Since then the whole thing seems to have fizzled out and modern painters seem to be looking back to these movements for their methodologies, but are there any genuine new movements whose members have a common agenda and distinctive style?
