Hello All
I have recently come into posession of a number of paintings and prints. Bought from an estate sale. However after much headscratching and hours of research I am none the wiser and hoping someone can help. Please could advise be offered on the following items. I can put more images on if anyone wants a closer look at signatures etc. (Hopefully this is allowed, please accept my apologise if not). It is worth noting that as of last night I had no knowledge about art what so ever, so if something is plainly obvious please let me know I am keen to learn.
This gold painting is rather large, I have done some research and believe this style is called impasto.
this one has me a little excited the signature simply read Bruin .....I'm hoping this is a cornelis de bruijn. I have looked at some of his other works and his signature appears different quite a bit
this painting is not in good shape it looks like it has lots of veins in it, the signature looks to me to say "y.gells" but I can't find anyone with that name
indo painting i think is a screen print

I look forward to getting some advice on these pieces.
Joe

Sorry Joe I can’t help at all just maybe someone can. My usual advice after Google is to go along to one of the Art auction houses , they have had experts and they will at least look , I support se you could send in photos but do better ones than you have put here, good light and full on and the correct way up, plus signature detail.. good luck.

It's always going to be hard work trying to identify old pictures - I'd be quite happy to own most of these, which isn't much help I know, but the last of them looks like a copy. and not an especially good one. I'm afraid y.gells means nothing to me. This is the one that's in bad condition, I take it? Those 'veins' could be cracks in the old varnish, cracks in the paint beneath, or both - but it's not a valuable picture.
As for the possible de Bruijn - well.... um. I doubt it, but you never know. It's in need of a clean, but even in its present state it does not look like a distinguished painting just bursting to get out. I like the oriental ones much better.
PS - I'm slightly confused about the one you mean, looking back at what you've said: the impasto picture certainly isn't Cornelis/Cornelius de Bruijn - wrong period, wrong technique; the painting of the books and musical instruments - Aya, is that a de Bruijn you found? - is a very inferior copy of the painting shown (by Aya) below. Period and technique are about right, but the execution of it isn't. I'm still liking the look of the bird picture, though.
