Looking for stuff in a book case I have just rediscovered this. Old and tattered on the outside and cost seven bob when new....can't find a date.  That's 35 p for all you youngsters. The most beautiful paintings, this one is July.
What a great rediscovery, Sylvia!  I just love the painting for July.  You can still buy these from the Oxfam online second-hand bookshop - they have several copies, I’m tempted to buy one.  I’ve bought from Oxfam’s online bookshop before, they have some really good bargains, I recently bought a couple of books of Arthur Rackham’s illustrations.

I've seen them on Amazon Jenny.   Thanks for that.
Very nice find Sylvia.
Do you have a lot of bookcase(s), I wonder? I have!  And we do forget things - I rediscovered a beautifully illustrated book, words by David Stephen, paintings in watercolour by Nina Scott-Langley; it was tucked out of sight - sent to me on my 19th birthday by Auntie Peg, of much blessed memory.   This is why, though I have bought and sold books, being formerly a dealer in such things in my modest way, I hate to throw books away, because you never know when you'll fortuitously encounter them while rummaging through your shelves.  That book of yours, with illustrations by Maurice Wilson in collaboration with Rowland Hilder (wouldn't you have given your eye-teeth for that experience?) is a wonderful thing to have.   I'm on the lookout for a book I sold - forgotten the title, but it was a book of seabirds, painted by Charles Tunnicliffe - now don't tell me!  Much of the pleasure is derived from hunting these books down, tracking them to their lair, and ensuring you get a copy in excellent condition.  I only hope my scattered library (books in every corner) is sufficiently valuable to be worth my descendants' inheriting it, rather than giving it to charity shops; I say descendants; none of them is descended directly from me - and by the time I die, I suspect the collection will be unmanageably huge: such, at least, is my ambition.
I don't think I can aspire to the quantity or quality of books that you seem to have Robert.  Though yes I do have a floor to ceiling bookcase.  The quantity of books over the years has depleted and the photograph albums has increased.  Your collection sounds amazing.   I spent part of my childhood in the company of two spinster ladies the daughters of a Wesleyan minister .  They had a library you would have adored...I only vaguely remember it but I think I started some of my journeys there.  There are many wonderful Charles Tunnicliffe paintings  at Oriel Ynys Mon in Anglesey.

I yearn for a proper library - mine is spread all over my flat, and would also extend into the kitchen area, were I not afraid of the effects of steam..... The answer, of course, is for someone here, with a vast library, to invite me to live with them in their palatial abode (servants optional); I can't promise that I'd be compatible with such a person, but I'm sure our libraries would just love each other.   So - don't hesitate.  I should prefer a castle, large manor house, so long as it has a library - that's really all I require.   Modest wishes, you see?  What on earth, I cannot but wonder, is holding people back?  One was made for a more comfortable, expansive era........... surely there must be someone, somewhere, prepared to extend such advantages to me?
Oh Robert ...ideas above your station.   I have HUGE garden....
Build a library in it, and orf we jolly well go! By the way, seizing this opportunity to let you all know, I've bunged a blog on the blog page: aware that rather few of us visit it, I thought I should signpost it to you.  It's fascinating (obviously) and well worth a good read.  You can always send me money, if you want more. Actually, you can always send me money even if you DON'T want more, but far be it from me to solicit.
Blogs seem to have vanished...looked hard...any hints please. Have found it...there used to be a heading for BLOGS... I use to write lots then realised I was talking to myself. But there you go that's about usual...even Sam tipurns his back on me and has a kip. Robert enjoy your visitors and free lunch. . CLEAN up the day before they come.

Hmm.  They can be found under 'Community', but they do seem to take a long time to appear.  I think the next time I'm feeling blog-ishly inclined, I'll use my very own, on Blogger.   https://wightpaint.blogspot.com/
I didn't realise they existed so thanks for the nudge in the right direction Sylvia and Robert.  I've had a look now but there seems to be very little actual discussion going on. First silly question - what exactly is a blog? Second, can anyone start one? Thirdly does anyone look?
