The Jack House Gallery in old Porsmouth is once more exhibiting this local man's work and I urge anyone within reach to view it. He is very old, my age, an ex rigger in the naval dockyard and his skills, particularly in capturing the work and workmen is amazing. The figures he draws and paints are quite stunning. He doesn't have a mobile phone, he goes every where on his bike and couldn't give a palette for exhibition appearnaces, so wasn't there last night the preview.
Scuse me Derek... Age is but a number, im getting stroppy with all thse kids catagorising me as "elderly". Could you post some pics of this guys exhibition it sounds great...so does he .
The link worked for me, Pat. What fantastic work.
That's the chap, Pat thanks. Sylvia you're right about age things. After his 1st ex the gallery told me where he works and I went.to a sort of artists commune. I didn't find him there was hardly anyone about but as I was leaving a chap appeared and challenged my presence. He kindly went off to look for John, couldn't - and then someone else turned up and suggested he was at the gallery. I called them and yes, he was there adding his name to works on show and sold....some were going for around 4K...he'd forgotten the apppointment I had. He would come immediately. I knew he didn't have a phone, went everywhere on a bike and it was hissing buckets down that day, so I expected a bedraggled John Green to arrive. But no the gallery shipped him and his bike over. He and I talked for about 3 hours, two OLD gits putting the world to rights and frankly not a lot about painting. It was lovely.
