This amused me when it popped up just now online....muses and the iconic paintings they inspired. I image when the poor girl saw this she would have been less than impressed. I have no idea who painted it but what a piece of crap!  Sorry it's so small, I seem to have reduced it without meaning to and now I can't get it back again.

Looks like Modigliani, Peter. He liked long necks. Oh, I've just realised the symbolism from this example. 🫣🤭
Very tragic story. I love all Modigliani’s work ( we all have different views that’s for sure😄)…Jeanne Hébuterne, his wife, who committed suicide when Modigliani was dying.

He’s one of those artists that I didn’t like at first, but changed my mind when I saw a few of his works in a gallery…always the best way to see art. But you can’t like everything…that’s for sure.
True, and I didn't know the story behind it. Frankly though if I'd painted that I'd be ashamed to show anyone.
Why?
Modigliani was a world famous artist, Peter - I think you're going to be in a minority here.
That's exactly my point Robert, why is he world famous when he can't draw or paint?! (Yes, my tongue is firmly in my cheek).
This website is helpful to check out rarer Modiglianis. https://www.secretmodigliani.com/1898-1910.html When I'm puzzled about a famous modern artist I look at their early work, before they settle into their own signature style.
Artists’ early work is interesting - how their style evolved for whatever reason. Traditional beginnings are often a feature, just take a look at Picasso ( the most obvious one ), Mondrian, Van Gogh, Morandi….David Hockney…I’m sure you can all think of more…Kandinsky?
