I know this isn't the first time this topic has been aired on here . But it still is incredibly irritating and frustrating. People who acquire these numbers instead of names seem all of them not to be able to just have a name... this apparently isn't their fault but the signing on process. It makes for impersonal communications everything that goes with it. PLEASE POL could it be made easier to sign up then we will have lovely Tom , Dicks and Harrys, Pats and Flossy,s instead of these blessed numbers.....

With Sarah, Phil, Ellen, Rose the dentist, and the granddaughter whose name I forget.

Well, though - you and I have managed to register our names, and neither of us is the brain of Britain (you notice how kind I'm being there? Obviously I am! I mean - goes without saying! But others [he said, suddenly rediscovering his diplomacy gene]) have done it - so why can't new registrants? Can only be for two reasons: one, they don't think too carefully before registering, two, the site doesn't insist on a personal name. I really think it might, because I can't be doing with these damn numbers any more than you can - I'm dyscalculic, for goodness' sake (dyslexia with figures - they tended to slap your legs at school, but nowadays the disability is recognized; and I've never forgiven Mrs Arnold at All Saints Primary for not recognizing it earlier: old bat, that's what you were.... revenge taken late is better than no revenge at all). Where were we .... oh yes. POL - do see to it.

Does that mean we would have to contact Dawn over this issue? It appears that all of us who have joined POL before the new site was introduced have got names or at least nicknames while many of the new members have got numbers. Instructions of how to register might have been in order.

Well done Pat - I have wanted to email Dawn on several occasions but have been unable to find her email address - I can only find a telephone number which isn't much use at night time or early morning when I am most likely to access the site.

Just to let you know that this issue has now been fixed for new members signing up. Users with thenumeric usernames will be prompted to choose a screen name when they next login to the site. If this is affecting you then please logout and choose a screen name when you log back in.

There are still many members who have logged in using anonymous numbers. The POL team have offered the following solution to our request: Just to let you know that this issue has now been fixed for new members signing up. Users with the numeric usernames will be prompted to choose a screen name when they next login to the site. If this is affecting you then please logout and choose a screen name when you log back in. And to all a Happy New Year

Hi all, I tried the log out and log in thing and didn't get the prompt to set a username - I am greeted by 'Patricia' when I log in to the site (which is correct) but just get numbers when on the forum. I have emailed the mods so hopefully I'll be me before long :) Thanks, Patricia McB
