Just had a lovely enjoyable hour looking at the gallery. There really are some gems on there. Some new names and some of the older brigade . I find I learn a lot looking at other peoples technique and methods.

For some odd reason I cannot simply reply without quoting. It wont let me. But yes, I have seen! There is some good and lovely work there. Some watercolour work is terrific...i hate them. Why can't I do that??? Ha ha. Don't really hate them of course and like you Sylvia I try to see how they did it. Frustratingly most of the time I know how...yet still I can't do it. Like Alan Owen...three lines and a flick o the brush an da dahhhh...a tree. Until I try it. D
David - 60 years' worth of experience lies behind Alan's abilities; although having seen some of his older work, there was always a keen eye and sure hand at work. As for enlivening or providing threads - the forum goes up and down; someone will turn up, make a point, and set it on fire; then there are periods of sepulchral silence. T'was ever thus, but well done for trying to breathe life into it; think of it as a party - full of action, if you're lucky, on the night; balloons, pop, general merriment. Then the next day - ooh, my head... never again ... where did that traffic cone come from, and why is it super-glued to my backside.... Ebb and flow, old duck; ebb and flow.
I've been looking through the gallery this morning. After a week with little time to spare, I've been playing catch up. A marvelous range of styles. I tend to look out for certain artists, but they fizz through rapidly as we know, it's easy to miss stuff. The odd-ball work always gets my attention, there's usually a few in there somewhere. On occasion I'll peek back into the darkest recesses of the gallery archive...I was looking at page 5000 odd today. Lots of good work, and names I don't know. I've always found looking at art sparks me off in some way, when thinking of what to paint.
Amanda still paints - she has a blog, too, and sometimes shows her work on Facebook. Adebanji, I would imagine, is just too flaming busy to show here now .... I did ask him for a tenth of his energy, but he wouldn't supply it.
Shame Amanda has left us. My wife is asking whether we are doing another sketch book collaboration. I said probably not...
I see that our Syd has posted a painting today, which is lovely. I always think it's great when there is some input from the forum experts as we don't see many of their paintings in the gallery (Sylvia, you are forgiven as I know it's difficult at the moment for you).
