I'm posting this here as well as the Gallery as I want to express my appreciation for the help and support I have had from the Forum during my rather sporadic on/off year. You are all generous in sharing your expertise; I feel that I have gained a lot from that even though I haven't done all that much painting. Need to work harder next year. I want to wish those of you who probably won't see my Gallery message a very Happy Christmas, a safe and relaxing holiday break, and a creative 2025.
I'm off on Tuesday (NZ time) for Christmas on a small ship in the Southern Ocean (on not in I hope), will catch up with your posts, artworks and comments, in the New Year. Best wishes.

You've encapsulated there the whole point of this site - sure, it offers something to those who just like looking at a variety of pictures and the techniques used to create them, but more than that, it gives encouragement, information, and practical help to those who strive to produce their own drawings and paintings. There have been those who use it purely for self-promotion and clog up the works in various ways with their pre-conceived prejudices, and if people have sometimes wondered why I, among others, can be over-combative at times - it's because this really isn't the place for all that ego-driven nonsense.
But - this is not the time for Grinchy Scrooge-ism! So I express my thanks to those who have contributed to the education and support of others, and am glad to read that their efforts have borne fruit with Sandra, whose trip I envy and lack the stamina to undertake; all the suitable festive greetings to them, to us, and to her. And to the Artist and Leisure Painter magazines for giving us this much valued facility, via Dawn and her legion of back-room goblins.
This is beginning to sound like an Awards Ceremony for Best Film of 2024, but greetings to my fellow moderators too, which I know Sandra would reciprocate - they've certainly made my life a lot less tedious this year.
