At least Marjorie has a clean guinea pig. Let us all just be thankful for that. Fighting like the little demon I am to get back to the point, though - procrastination takes many forms, and perhaps one has to take advantage of it and stop fighting it. Eg, all right, you didn't get to the easel, but you did the washing up; ironed your clothes; washed your piggy; it all had to be done, and you did it, so bask in the glow of virtue - and at least you've got something to wear. It works thus with me - if I have an event coming up, even days away (it was a dental appointment this time) I tend not to paint: I put it off on the somewhat ludicrous grounds that I wouldn't be able to concentrate because I've got this appointment, or meeting, coming up ... I know it's nonsense, and I know it's a delaying mechanism, but it's really hard (and getting much harder) to overcome it; almost as if I fear that if I get into a painting I'll forget to get ready for the meeting, or go to the dentist or whatever. I think we can sum it up like this: human beings are very odd; older human beings are odder than most; and artists are the oddest of the lot. This is bad news for Syd, of course..... but I expect he's long since come to terms with it. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
If it's too hot it'll roast.
When I have hit this problem Marjorie, I am back to the original art thing, I tend to just scribble rubbish for a second a minute whenever it takes me, then i try and see things in the scribbles if not straight away, maybe later, a bit like looking at cloud shapes, I find that sometimes I then start to make forms from what I see and this often gets me started again. Maybe a little crazy but works for me.
I would be interested to see if you actually find it worth while Syd, I have found that even the most simplistic forms that have come from this can be quite rewarding, pleasing and amusing at times.
