Today I've made bread, cakes, ironed and bathed a Guinea pig - all to avoid starting to paint. This happens every time I take a break ( this time to prepare for a family birthday ). The only way I find, to get back into it, is to just pick up the tools. Yes, that's obvious, but it's still not easy. I've just finished off a pastel sketch, the feeling of frustration and annoyance is still there but maybe tomorrow it won't be so hard. I know someone who can't understand this and never has a problem but I need to be inspired about something before I can start - anyone else the same?

bathed a Guinea pigI hope that's not a euphemism for some other activity related to "beavers" !! *grins* ( a dirty grin) My suggestion to someone else applies - after a break from arty-ing, don't start on a "real" picture... ease back into it with random scribbles and washed; try an abstract with just ONE colour (with water to make many shades); draw with a rigger only; paint something from your imagination, a ogre face or a talking sentient sword. When it doesn't matter if it's rubbish then you will enjoy it and get yourself ready for the "real" art. (( I say "real" in the " " becasue i consider those things I mentioned to BE real art! ))

I haven't had a break from art Marjorie, but it takes me simply ages to get going. I fidget and mess around and then I have to look at my e-mails, then the news items, then I have to go onto this website and look at the gallery, then the forum, then the blogs etc. etc. Before I know it hours have gone by. Once I get into it I am fine. So why do I do this?
