Depends on what medium they like using best. I use pastels so I would like as a present either Unison soft pastels in a box set or Schmincke which are the softest pastels you can get I believe. Whatever it would be (medium) I would prefer it was a quality brand and not something you can pick up in The Works say.

Vouchers for me, too. An easel would be great - if you needed one. Ditto anything else ....... canvas or watercolour paper would be good to get, but then you don't know (presumably) what brands or types of canvas or paper your friend prefers. Someone was going to buy me a painting holiday - ie, with tutors; fortunately I got wind of it and changed their mind, because there isn't actually much I'd hate more ... we are an awkward lot, those of us who slosh paint about - (you've only got to read a few threads on the forum to realize that! :D ) - and it would be so easy to spend a lot of money on a present that might have its recipient wishing you'd spent it on something useful..

Counterweighted easel. I never got one but can live in hope.
Camera equipment. i never got this but bought it myself.
Rosemary & Co brushes gift voucher... never got this either, but who cares its easy to get them on line.
Paint - almost always in colours I don't use... and hence donate to the local art club.
A painting by someone else.... hmmm.... nice idea... but really?
Bottom line. Either go really high end or give vouchers.

I was looking through our local Sainsbury's yesterday. I was suprised to see the other team on their shelves, A&I, they haven't had that for a couple of years, the only way I can get it is by subscription. My April copy came last Thursday. In the shop, I was a little disapointed, on the cover were a couple of what looked like pastel pencils, none came with my sub. Now I'm wondering if that was in error, or ois A&I leaving the regular customers with a sub to the mag out of the freebies.bestMick
