The forum is on a downer just now as we have lost a lot of very interesting peoplewho no longer post here. True ,we are recruiting interesting people but we need eveyone to initiate a topic , not just comment. I tried with my post "watrrcolour methods. but that is about to sink without trace due to lack of comment.Mabe not a good topic , maybe lack of interest but at least i tried as some are doing but we need more input.....Syd
There is a lack of activity. Yet I am enjoying speaking with liked minded souls on topics I've raised.
The gallery luckily is good with new people but whether they will be forummers is unsure.Quiet maybe but it's always up and down.
I hope we - and in particular I - didn't put Mats Winter off: but I felt the direction he was inviting us to go down had to be answered. No point having a forum at all if we can't take each other on in argument, without of course letting it turn into a shouting match. Artistic egos can be fragile, though. Mine isn't, because of the political trade I was in; but I know others have felt uncomfortable; I just don't know what you can do about that, though. North Light may of course have hit on the real truth - people are too busy producing art in the good weather to come here and talk about it. I do think we sometimes worry too much about any silence on the forum that last a couple of days or more - we don't have to fill every single available kilobyte with conversation - a bit of a rest can be quite pleasant: I remember answering 5 questions on different topics in one day - I was frazzled at the end of it.... that was probably the point at which I decided to write my oil painting e-book, but I don't really remember if that's what pushed me into it or whether I just wanted to do it anyway. But it waxes and wanes. The Gallery is very active, so the people are about - which is perhaps the important thing. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net
It'll pick up. The Wednesday evening "#artisthour" on Twitter has just tanked, having changed from an open share-your-art session into an interview run by the new 'management' so I'm sure some of those users will find their way here.
I am not so sure the forum is quiet at the moment - my perception (and it is only a perception) is that there are as many comments being posted as ever. However many are just short one liners and few have anything very significant to say (bit like this one) - perhaps this is the reason why it appears quiet. But maybe I've got it quite wrong...! Or have I ?
Welcome to Newbie-ness. You get to be a Forum Member + at the 100 post mark.
I have jumped straight in. Asking questions, opening debate. The lurkers comment wasn't intended to be disrespectful, its just that is the case. I am still a newbie here myself and intend to learn and improve on what I do.
