I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of artists favourite quotations. I'll start the ball rolling with one which I've laminated and mounted above my workstation in the studio. It comes from Tennyson's 'Ulysses' and reads : Some work of noble note may yet be done. Well I live in hope! There must be dozens out there so come on everyone.....
If at first ye dont succeed, pull yer jaiket ower yer heid. anon. and sanitised Scottish advice to anyone in difficulty. wise words. Syd
Forever the poet here's another one I like: ' music is the poetry of sound, painting is the poetry of sight.' - or something like it - by Whistler
"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist..." - apparently some military chap during the Boer wars. "Resistance is useless" - the Vogon guard just before Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect were ejected into space. "There has to be a better way of making money" - Me, 2016, right after a student failed to show for a lesson and several times since.
"If at first you don't succeed, have another try. Then give up. No sense in being a damn' fool about it." W C Fields
Heard this not so long ago: Bad art is easily explained - just put an 'f' in front of it.
I have a book full of my minimalist line drawings which I have titled 'Simplifying Form' . It has a couple of quotes on the front page which many might also find applicable to their approach to art. They are: 'There is no greatness where there is no simplicity (goodness and truth) '...Tolstoy Technical skill is mastery of complexity, creativity is the mastery of simplicity'...Christopher Zeeman

"It's the pedal on the right" - me again, very loudly when I get stuck behind someone insisting on doing 25 in a 50 mph limit.
