Some time ago, an artist who's name I forget (Sue something?) was posting some excellent nature watercolours, mushrooms, dandilions, snails - that sort of thing. She did one, which was a single painting, squared off into seperate images. I made the comment that the format she used demonstrated her images would make excellent designs for kitchen tiles. She thought I was joking.
Every now and then we hear from artists wanting to sell their work, and, because it's a very competative maket, with an lot of artists fighting for a shrinking number of buyers, I've suggested looking for alternative ways of selling.
While browsing the net I came across the site below.
MyBacksplash.com
In effect, you make a print of your work onto tiles, which in turn are used as a kitchen backsplash. Same approach could of course be used in a bathroom, with appropriate pictures. I would think you could negotiate a "job lot" price.
So, apart from the normal channels of framing and exhibiting, what other unusual ideas can you think of to make an income from your work?
