Not very far from where I live, the National Trust charge a surprisingly high fee to see Stanley Spencer's painted memories of the first world war (at the Sandham Memorial Chapel). 'Tis worth the visit, though, and you can be sure that I will be using the family National Trust membership (a Christmas gift from my mother) to visit the paintings again this year. "Map Reading" is one of the panels, showing a moment of collective repose, and demonstrating Spencer's free perspective. Interestingly, I don't think that actual conflict is directly shown in any of the panels.
