Been approached to design a cover for a fiction book..... Quite the hardest project to date..... Will keep all updated.
I was once asked to do this ( I avoided it in the end) and it was so difficult. As well as trying to create something which encapsulated the theme of the book, I had to keep in mind where the title would be. This affected the design. Good luck anyway.
We've agreed a concept for the front and back.... Just need to cobble it together....
You could run into trouble here - it depends who has asked you and who is publishing it. I have heard of writers approaching artists to do this, and then presenting the idea and the design to the publisher who said they have their own people to design their covers and don't use other designers. This is even true of illustrations for the book. I've only illustrated one book, which was essentially self-published by the author so didn't have this trouble. And I designed the cover for my own e-book: a fairly simple task by comparison with designing the cover for an actual, physical book. I should find out for sure that writer and publisher are on the same page before committing yourself to substantial work.
The book is based on a character of his already and is in the time of WW2... Just before Operate Neptune. So it is 1 SAS in occupied France. I have read the mauscript and it is very good and I have been researching the 'kit' used, plus spoken with a military historian. He has self published the first two books and is looking at an agent to get to a publisher, if not then self publish again.
