For me, a relaxing thing is to re work old paintings. Style and approach changes, hopefully one improves. Below is an old painting and then the re work which I started a couple of days ago. I didn't want to change the whole thing, I'd painted out the grapes some time ago. The difficulty I found was that my approach and style now made it a bit problematic - the more I changed, the less the whole thing "gelled"(?). I won't do more to it now but I will try a newer, simplified version.
Are there supposed to be two paintings, Marjorie? The one showing is superb. Bri
I can see both. Your newer, brighter palette is more striking and the detailing on the vase is splendid. The cheese has 'matured' extremely well too. I have to say I did think there was a bit of an empty space to the left where the water jug and tureen had been in the original, but to be honest it didn't strike me as empty until I took a closer look at comparing the two versions. I shall look forward to number 3.
Really interesting thread and I love your second version Marjorie. Especially the highlights and details. Personally I feel that it could be worth keeping going as your rework certainly "gells". Either way I'll look forward to version 3 or else the new painting you have in mind.
