I challenge anyone who wants to do it...to draw , paint, construct a DRAGON ...No photographs, no pet dragons no reference material WHATSOEVER. Just do it from your minds eye. Lets see what we can stretch ourselves to do. It is a bit of fun and we will have to trust that no one cheats and drags out their Welsh flag or looks up St George. Ill post mine tomorrow. either here or on the gallery (or both ) but if on the gallery let us know its there....go, go ,go. Blame David not me.
Thanks friend I'll .post.mine tomorrow D
Posted my effort on the gallery Sylvia, no cheating, no reference and apart from one sinuous pencil line, it was straight in with the brush and the line work in last. Good challenge, I've always considered myself not to have much of an imagination and I'm fairly content with sketching/painting outdoors and what's in front of me...leaving out un-wanted clutter. I do use photo's when I run out of things in my sketch books to paint, but I don't get the same results form photo's. A worthwhile exercise.
I just posted my little dragon "Greeny" on the Gallery. I think he is not used to the flames and is experimenting how high they can get. This challenge certainly was great fun and a lot of us hurried to their drawing table to enter (I certainly did!!!). http://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/art-view,picture_174931.htm http://www.painters-online.co.uk/artist/MiaKetels
Posted mine now. As requested, just sat down and did it. I think it proves my point! I cannot do it from my mind yet. In my imagination it was a fabulous dragon. On paper I even forgot the add the flames!! Am I allowed to add fire? Too late, I have added his fiery breath1 I'll post it later. Interestingly, it is lack of motor skill which limits me, not imagination. As a part -time (ahem) author, I have been able to put into words what I struggle to paint. I have also managed to develop a perfectly sound scientific working theory about how dragons can breath fire, so no lack of mental pictures in this darned dome! As comparison I might get a toy dragon and draw it. David

Heres my dragon . hes horrible and I mean the quicky painting...Syd
Very good Syd. You also get detention. D
Mine is up in the Gallery. It is very interesting that we have all painted our dragons from the same side!.
Thanks all for commenting and particularly to Sylvia for posting this challenge in the first place. We have had some lovely, if not horrifying dragons and cartoons. It was hard to classify them on the POL lists though - there is an absence of "Fantasy' in the subject area. I couldn't put it under animals, because they do not really exist.
Of course they exist. Barrington and Athelstan are good friends with Ambrose, the purple dragon, who lives just outside their village. It's a pity my cartoons are only in black and white. Joking aside I invented a whole series of stories about the purple dragon which I've told over the years, and continue to tell, to my grandchildren who love them.
Boo! I'm not playing.
Wonder why my avatar hasn't changed as I thought it would.
