I do remember David Hilman - he clashed in a very big way with Syd Edward, which amused me considerably (Syd started his reply with "Buffoon!").  I liked David's approach, though, if not necessarily his manners - though he did restrain himself a bit, which I think he found a strain; after all, you can't really be rude to a 90 year old.  David followed the Charles Bargue course - and was a good advertisement for it: I know that he's very heavily into hard work and personal development, so probably has little time - but I'd like to see him come back, personally; there was nothing namby-pamby about him, he had a point of view and expressed it.   Looking forward to seeing what Denise does with her casts: I've never worked from a cast - it never really occurred to me to acquire one, but it would be a fantastic basis for study.
The cast is from Jacksons Alan and I think you are right a few sketches first. Robert, I read the Charles Brague book, Norrette kindly sent me a PDF file with the plates. I also bought some second-hand books on classical drawing and painting which have detailed chapters with regards to cast drawing and painting. I'm satisfied I've picked up some theory to make a start but as you will be aware, one has to be prepared for many hours of observing and practising and it will be a constant of learning and developing in this particular area. Of course I am never under any illusion that I won't mess the whole thing up.
