Hi gang!
I have a love of cartooning, for many reasons. Actually I started off my art career as a part-time cartoonist whilst a member of the military. It all began as a casual thing, drawing cartoon and characatures of my mates, then I was lucky enough to submit some work to a magazine called The Australasian Post, and got a contract to produce a series of cartoons depicting an Australian bushman living in the northern Outback. The series was called Üp North" and went on for around three years. From that start, I became a member of the Australian Black and White Artists Association, and met some amazing pen and ink artists, like Geoff Hook, Weg, Bill Knight, and James Kemsley (now passed away), who had taken on the cartoon series Ginger Megs. I still produce the odd cartoon for local publications, although I don't persue it like I used to! It was a great way to express your ideas, opinions etc, and I was amazed as to what you could get away with! I remember, years ago, doing a trip with a mate around Australia, and making "travelling money "by sitting in pubs and doing characatures of people sitting at the bar!
I still draw a lot, to support my painting, but will always have a love of cartooning, particularly political cartooning.
