Hi everyone, it's by no means a masterpiece, but I just thought it was funny that even when I'm meant to be putting in hard graft and transforming the garden, i still manage to sneak a painting in, no matter how basic! Lucy

:P unfortunately i haven't got to the fun bit yet, still slogging away at ivy/filling the skip/regrouting (?) the patio slabs. Thankfully the skip goes tomorrow though and i can get on with planting some veggies. Did find a toad today through as I was putting the mural up, just about jumped out of my skin! Quick question - the painting is on wood and done in acrylic, I'm guessing I need to varnish it. I was going to just get some standard exterrior wood varish from Homebase, but now I'm wondering if I need something different because of the acrylic? Anyway, back to attacking ivy for me....

Love the mural Lucy. I guess we make time for a painting or two because it is more important and fun for us than housework etc.

Clear household varnish should be OK although, if you don't mind the extra cost, marine varnish will be harder wearing and stand the frosts and wet better. Like it.

Yacht varnish/marine varnish is what I'd go with too. Oh, and toads are the gardener's best friend and should be encouraged: toad at one end of the garden, hedgehog at the other, and your snail and slug problems will reduce exponentially.

Syd, @ 90 is correct if the space is too small lots of damp and woodlice...who of course feed on, well, damp rotting wood... It would need to have a 25 mm gap to keep a good drying airflow...vertical wooden battens [preservative treated]...

Hi, sorry for being slack on replying - i've not been online much as the garden became a bit more all-consuming than i'd expected! Thank you for all your comments and advice, went with satin acrylic varnish to the front and back in the end. Lucy
