I am total rubbish at evaluating or judging my own work. Everything I do looks a bit of a disaster while I am doing it and also afterwards. The only way I seem to be able to judge how well I have done (or not!) is to put the painting away and not look at it for a week and then I seem to be better at forming a sensible opinion of a painting. I do very occasionally do a painting which just goes totally right from start to finish, but it is like hen's teeth - rare! Mostly my paintings fall into the 'don't know' category.
The problem is that I would really like to evaluate a painting as I go along so that I can keep making the right decisions as I paint. As I can't seem to do this I often go charging along, probably making things worse, but not being able to see clearly enough to keep on course.
Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem judging their own paintings. How do you overcome this?
