I have been off - line for a week after a clap of thunder knocked out my ariel so I missed watching the end of the auction. It sounds like it was a great success and I would like to add my congratulations to all the artists & organisers especially Beatrice,WELLDONE ALL. I also wasn't able to announce that I finally finished my website, which took me ages to do & I needed to get my hair recoloured as it turned grey in the process. Actually Mick the weather has been quite relevant over the last week, I posted a pic and someone wants to paint it... All of that was under the heading "mobile phones" so it was a bit of a chit chat... Looking quickly at some other threads they seem to be toeing the party line and sticking to the relevant subject. the whole forum seems to have hit the doldrums again maybe along withe the disgusting weather and aunts Mildred's bunions that's what people are happy with.

Hi Mick..I think you are right, but posting under " General Discussion" the threads do seem to have a life of their own..At the moment artists do seem a little put off using the forum, and more regulations about staying on thread might put more people off...But you are right the weather is terrible and I'm sorry to hear about aunt Mildreds ingrowing toe nail...

Quite honestly, I often enjoy to threads more when they go off at a tangent when then can give the opportunity for a good laugh. Often the subject of the thread has been exhausted by about the 6th comment anyway and that is why it takes off in another direction. A short time ago, a thread was getting a bit heated and it was a deliberate ploy to head it off at the pass, so to speak,by changing the subject to calm things down a bit. I think if anyone still has something to say on a thread that has deviated from it's original topic, it is pretty easy to bring it back by making the next comment relevant to the thread and then people respond and take that subject up again. Not something to worry about in my book, but then that is just me and I accept that others could feel differently.

The joy of the POL Forum has always been its relaxed attitude to life...and while I'm still alive it will always have that scatter of banter... If you don't like it don't read it! The PM system gets used for exactly that Personal like one artist making it known that their health has gone terminal...It is difficult knowing this and keeping it just that...personal. Or....how did you make that painting... Or...let's chew the fat about.... Or...here is my latest personal insult for you to read...I get a few of these each year The really personal stuff is shunted to private email off the POL radar etc...

Having trouble remembering what this thread is about......! Weather much better here (was the thread about weather...??) - anyway, it is 17.5C - quite amazing given what it has been like over the past few days.

Keeping within the general thread of the thread (huh?), I'd just like to point out it's currently a dry 60 degrees in Amalfi - and next week, I'm off to there for a fortnight. No webbed feet there, but quite a few sticky fingers. Just thought I'd mention it. B-)

Ah, that sirred a bit of life into the forum, I thought it had died.Blue, once the posts strayed off of, mobile phones, they were no longer relevent, and deserved a thread of their own.I think it is rather unfair for a reader, new or otherwise to follow, what looks to be an interesting thread, say, the best blue to use for mid-August, costal Cornish skies, and is beset by some unfunny one liner, or an irrelevent post about aunt Mildreds ingrowing toenail.  Perhaps we could have a new thread entitled, General Chit-chat, where posters can go when they drift off thread, they can even leave a little link.  Then they would be able to chat away to their heart's content.It really wouldn't do for us all to start posting exactly what we liked, as someone suggested, can't remember who, it would make the forum a waste of space.best

Can I make a suggestions to solve the going off thread issue. Another site I belong to has a daily news thread. They call the thread by the date, i.e. 'Thursday 4th May', and everybody says either hello or what they are up to that day, or asks after people's health, the weather in their part of the world - that sort of thing. Those threads can head anywhere as they are general chit chat and daily news. You just start a new thread every day for that day. You can still comment on the previous days, but having a separate thread for each day does make comments easier to go back to later. Has this idea got legs.......?

I agree with claireanddaisy - we are all (very!) individual and it is exactly like herding cats to try and make us all think the same thing. And why would anyone want to, I ask. Surely the fun is in the differing opinions, even if they do get a bit heated at times. I think the thing is that some people might not have exhausted what they want to say on a thread and then when people wander off the subject, they get frustrated. I understand that, but human nature is human nature and we all witter at times and then Aunt Muriel's toenail becomes a more fascinating topic to discuss. If anyone hasn't finished with the thread, then bring it back on form with your next comment. Simples! However, my advice is to just enjoy the rich diversity of the human spirit and don't try to hem it in. Are we really discussing this.........?????!!!!!
