After a month or so of using the Camel artists quality watercolour from India I declare myself well and truly hooked , the colours are wonderfully intense and go a long way. I’ve used every shape , make and type of watercolour over the years and these are just as good as the best in my opinion. I’ve talked online with some of India’s outstanding watercolour artists and a fair few use nothing else , the cost of course as I mentioned before is a fraction of what I’m used to paying as costs are substantially lower seeing as costs in India are a fraction of what we are used to paying.
How do they compare to white knights / st petersburg?
I read the description of Camel Water Colours and wondered how light fast they were. Well, here's a report from an artist who did light fast tests on the paints: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1384344
Yes - well; I'd like to know what pigments are used in these paints. Crimsons and reds generally can fade alarmingly, depending on their composition. Do the Camel colours indicate the pigment numbers? If not, then I'd do my own lightfastness tests. Given the extremes of heat and moisture you can get in India though, I would imagine there's quite a lot of information on the paint if you know where to look. A lot of paint available in this country isn't anything like as lightfast as some claim, of course. But maybe the answer lies in mixing brands, having conducted your own tests, if you can't rely on one in particular.... I understand that Daniel Smith w/colours and Rembrandt have generally good reputations, provided you avoid the Alizarin Crimson and Rose Madder in the latter range. Like one of the Wet Canvas members, I'm not convinced by Permanent Alizarin Crimson, either.
coloring is one of the key things which adds beauty to the art and so i prefer them more
