Assignment of Copyright Agreements

I made mention of an Assignmemt of Copyright Agreement (on Demise) in another thread here in the Forum - it is to be found on the Haiku Foundation website. It struck me that although it is concerned with poetry and was written with US laws in mind it also has relevance in respect of artwork. Although the notice is written with US law in mind it can be adapted to include and to be relevant to the UK especially where artists sell to the States as I have in the past thus avoiding any potential difficulties after death. In this country copyright is automatic and passes to heirs and successors on death. Such an agreement may be belt and braces but it could be an issue where you have no heirs especially if you die intestate. However for the majority of us where there are heirs and successors it might be prudent to consider an inclusion on copyright issues in our wills. Something to discuss with your solicitor the next time you review your will.

I've often thought about adding a haiku to one of my line drawings but they are not really in the Japanese style and I've not got round to developing it. So haiga are still on the back burner. As for making a living out of my art there is no way that is happening but I do sell and who knows what will happen after my death? I could become world renowned but there again.....!
