Hi everyone, Before I begin I would like to explain that I emailed Dawn Farley the Online Editor for Painters online and mentioned the new release of my SmartGrid App, she replied and said she would be happy for me to share this information on the forum as I don’t want to break any rules. My name is Doug Cohen, I have recently released a new App called SmartGrid. SmartGrid is an artist grid reference tool for Apple devices. As an amateur painter myself I came up with an idea on how to improve the many artist grid apps that are available on the App Store. The App I have developed has no technical setup or sign up and also includes my very own points of interest system. Which is basically a way of adding points onto your selected image and when selecting these points the app gives you x,y coordinates in Inches or centimetres, which can then be transferred onto your canvas with a ruler and pencil mark making it a lot easier to plot things in the right position. The SmartGrid App can be found here: SmartGrid And a Facebook support page here: Facebook support page I think that this app would be a great addition for your tool kit. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions or ideas for the future please feel free to ask :)  Doug Cohen
When will the Windows version be released?

When will the Windows version be released?

Thanks for your question, I'm sorry but I don't have any plans to develop SmartGrid on Windows, I am looking into developing an android version in the future but I have no timeframe on that I'm afraid.
I don't have an Apple device - forgive the touch of stupid, but would your system work on other platforms?   (Failing which, perhaps someone replete with wealth and generous instincts would buy me an Apple device.....)

Apple apps don't work on android Robert but there are lots of art apps on android that do the same job. Lots of artists think using these apps is cheating,  but it's been proved that Canaletto used a pin hole camera and other old masters used the camera obscure.  A good app to try is 'Artist's eye' .

Robert Jones, NAPA on 29/07/2021 22:08:15 Hi Robert, As Bari say's Apple apps don't work on other platforms, however there are loads of artist grid apps available for android devices. I don't think it's cheating at all to use grid apps, artists have used grids for hundreds of years :)
Hi all, Just a quick note that I have just updated SmartGrid! I have implemented auto scaling on the points of interest system, so you can now change the canvas size and the points will automatically scale up/down to the correct positions. This means you can now use the same file for various different canvas sizes without redoing all the points
