When looking through the POL gallery, most of what I see are extremely good paintings of recognisable images with the rest being the odd abstract, yet still extremely well executed. I have been looking through a book of 'leading local contemporary artists' and I am at a loss to understand how some of them can command such high sums for a piece of work that is, in my opinion, lacking in the same talent as many of the POL members One of the works is in Oil pastel, looks like something my 6-year old grand-daughter would do, yet it has a price of over £500 on it. The fact that some of this chap's work is in the Saatchi gallery no doubt contributes to the price, but it does seem that he is taking the p*** by producing such work. I can understand how paintings done by monkeys and elephants can be raved about in such a gullible art establishment. I am just wondering, when does your work become 'your style' no matter how good or bad it is?
